CARLO RITCHIE
BIOGRAPHY
Comedian / Writer / Actor
Carlo Ritchie is a comedian, writer and actor as well as one of Australia's leading improvisers. Carlo has performed improv, stand-up and sketch comedy across the country even as far as remote opal mining community Andamooka, or as we say in the biz "the comedy capital." As one half of acclaimed improv duo "The Bear Pack" he has also toured extensively both at home and abroad, including at the invite only Kilkenny Car Laughs, Edinburgh Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festival.
Originally from the misty hills of Glen Innes, NSW, Carlo somehow ended up as one of the last speakers of Polish minority language, Wymysorys, for which he published the first children's book in 2013. Much to the delight of friends and family back home, he'll often pop up on the tele or radio, in such programmes as Channel 10 Thank God You're Here and as a regular guest on SBS Celebrity Letter and Numbers, amoung numerous other productions including the The Office Australia, Mikki Vs the World and A Beginner's Guide To Grief.
In 2009 Carlo and fellow improviser Steen Raskopoulos formed improv duo “The Bear Pack”, creating an award winning format and partnership that endures to this day. 2014 saw the pair invited to take on a monthly residency at the Chaser’s Giant Dwarf Theatre, joined by cellist Ange Lavoipierre, which soon led to a fortnightly residency, selling out their show every two weeks from late 2014 until 2017. During this time the group also had sold out runs at the Melbourne and Sydney comedy festivals and the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2018 and 2019 the pair was invited to prestigious, invite-only “Kilkenny Cat Laughs”, both years saw the pair perform with acclaimed Irish cellist Eimear Reidy to sold out houses.
In 2025 he directed Guy Montgomery's Stand Up Show "I've Noticed So Many Things it Would Be Unfair To Keep Them To Myself" which sold out across both Australia and New Zealand and Suma Iyer’s “Jesus Of Woolongong” which was shortlisted for best comedy at the Sydney Fringe. He has also signed on to direct Abby Howell’s forthcoming show for the 2026 festival season.
In 2024 he won "Best Comedy Podcast" at the NZ podcast awards for his series "Did Titanic Sink?" the second season of which has been nominated again in 2025. He is also currently a writer for Australian Children's Television Institution, Play School.
Carlo speaks and has performed in Polish, German, Wymysorys and to much less fanfare, English.
